Computer Pattern Making (560 hrs.)
(240 Lecture Hours + 320 Lab Hours)
This program will instruct students in the fundamentals of computer assisted design, pattern making, grading, and marker making as well as in the basic concepts of manual pattern making and graphic design. Students will learn and develop the essential skills and theories of design, sketching, pattern making, grading and marker making. The computer design courses will instruct students in computer illustration and design, special effects, fabric rendering, and color combinations using programs such as Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. Advanced courses in computer pattern making, digitizing patterns, computer grading, and computer marker making will provide students intensive training using the Gerber AccuMark 500 System, and various Computer Aided Design (CAD) applications that are pertinent in the field of fashion design and merchandising. Specifically, the students will learn the AccuMark menu, the idle menu, and storage area, the User Environment Parameters, the Gerber method of grading, rule table editor, digitizing method, marker & grading database, marker plot, parameter table, queue manager and menus including the pattern design system, pop up menu, data manager menu, macro menu, measure menu, block menu, line menu, point menu and grade menu. Upon completion of the program, students will be able to create digital portfolios using various computer design techniques and software.
